Concussion Management
What Is a Concussion?
A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI), usually caused by trauma to the head or the brain hitting the skull due to rapid acceleration, like in a whiplash injury. Concussions have a broad range of symptoms which can last anywhere from days to years. Symptoms can include but are not limited to headache, dizziness, nausea, light or sound sensitivity, changes in mood, sleep disturbances, and memory problems. If you suspect you have a concussion, it is important to have a thorough medical examination to rule out any serious and/or life threatening conditions.
Chiropractic Care for Concussions
Chiropractic can address many of the symptoms and underlying causes of lingering concussion symptoms. The neck, jaw, shoulder, eyes, balance, and coordination can all be effected by TBIs and, unaddressed, can cause long term and sometimes debilitating symptoms. Chiropractors can address the muscles and joints of your neck, jaw, and shoulder, can assess your balance, coordination, and eye movement, prescribe appropriate exercises and stretches, give you advice on how to manage return to activity, and will be able to help you determine if you need more medical help.
