Activator Method

What is the Activator Method?

The activator is an adjusting tool that has been used for over 50 years to gently and effectively adjust the spine and extremities. It uses an adjustable tension spring to deliver measured, careful impulses to improve mobility, decrease muscle spasm, and restore normal resting nervous system tone to irritated joints. Patients will feel a quick tap similar to a doctor testing your reflexes. The activator has decades of research and clinical success stories.

Why Choose the Activator Method?

The activator has some advantages over traditional manual adjustments that may make it the right choice for you:

  • Comfortable Patient Position – Activator adjustments are done with patients lying relaxed in a neutral position, without twisting or any fast movement. This prevents aggravating sensitive injuries like disc herniations while still delivering the same benefit of an adjustment. It is also a good choice for patients with hypermobility problems, because it delivers the benefits of adjusting without the risk of overstretching hypermobile joints.
  • Lower, More Controlled Force – Since the activator impulse is very fast, it does not need to be very forceful. We can also control the amount of force the activator delivers, allowing for very gentle adjustments to even the most sensitive injuries or bodies. An activator adjustment  feels like a firm tap with one finger.
  • Comfortable Extremity Adjusting - The activator is a very comfortable way to adjust joints like knees, jaw (TMJ),  shoulders, and ribs. There is no pulling or popping of the joints, and your chiropractor is able to apply the right amount of force in the right direction.
