Causes of Shoulder Pain

Each of your shoulder blades has 17 muscular attachments, and each of them needs to work together properly to support, move, and stabilize your shoulder. Shoulder pain can be caused by overactivity of muscle groups, weakness of stabilizer muscles, impingement of tendons, torn tendons and ligaments, damage to the joint surface of your shoulder itself, or even referral or radiating pain from your neck muscles and joints. Your neck, shoulder joint, shoulder blade, and upper back all contribute to shoulder health and can be contributors to shoulder pain.

Chiropractic Treatment for Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain treatment begins with evaluation. We will commonly evaluate your neck, upper back, and shoulder mobility, shoulder muscle and rotator cuff strength, check movement patterns for over/underactive muscle groups, and perform orthopedic tests to see whether your shoulder problem is coming from muscles, joints, nerves, tendons, or ligaments. Our experience treating all kinds of shoulder problems helps us determine the best course of action for your injury, your body, and your goals. Adjustments, whether manual or using the Activator help to restore proper motion to irritated and restricted joints. Active Release Technique and Trigger Point therapies along with massage guns and percussors can help to relax, heal, and bring blood flow to injured soft tissues. Exercises and stretches will target tissues that need long term remodeling, whether to improve flexibility, strength, or coordination. A well rounded treatment approach is important to affectively treat complicated joints like shoulders.
